Kumasi: Confusion Rocks TEWU Conference over Elections
The ongoing Teachers and Educational Workers
Union (TEWU) conference in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
(KNUST) has been hit with confusion as members raises red flag over the
behavior of the chairman, Peter Lumor.
The Greater Accra Chairman, Mr. Baffoe Gyamfi in an interview with Abena Pokua, Host of 'Efa Wo Ho' on Dadi 101.1 FM today Friday, August 30, 2019 expressed worry over the behavior of their chairman as he believes the elections could not be held as scheduled due to the behavior of the latter.
According to him, it will be disturbing if the election does not come on today.
He affirmed that, per the constitution governing the association, anyone who is to contest after attaining nomination should be allowed to contest, but he was of the view that the chairman knows the prospective contester would win massively with about 90% chance of success; this has led to the chairman behaving unreasonably.
He added the chairman is behaving awkwardly because he thinks his members will lose the elections and has called on him to change his attitude as he believes the ripple effect will be a serious implication on their economy.
Mr. Baffoe continued that, if they are not able to elect their executives at the conference would affect the association would pave way for extraordinary conference to take place which the members will find it difficult to raise money to finance it.
"If the elections do not come on, it will bring division between the members but we don't want it that way. If he declines to change his attitude, it wouldn't surprise me if the elections are not held" he said.
According to him, if the chairman goes with the law of the Union, he believes there will be peace.
The conference began on Sunday, August 25 and is set to come to an end today.
