Mining Sector Creates 26,425 Jobs

As at June 2019, a total of 26,425 persons were employed directly and indirectly by the mining sector, According to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh.

There was an improvement over last year’s full employment figure of 23, 894.

Addressing journalists at the Information Ministry’s Meet the Press Series, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, said local procurement of goods accounted for 87.3 percent (US$1.4 billion) of total procurement in the mining sector.”

He added that as at June 2019, a total of 25 local companies have been registered by the Minerals Commission to provide services.

Ghana's mining industry accounts for 5 – 10 % of GDP and 35% of total exports. • Gold contributes to 90% of total mineral exports.

Gold contributes over 90% of the total mineral exports and Other mineral commodities produced in the country are natural gas, petroleum, salt, and silver.
