Vivo Energy Ghana (Shell Licensee) as part of its sustainable development efforts in collaboration with ABCDE has commemorated International Literacy Day at the Achimota Senior High School. Participating schools included Achimota Senior High School (SHS), St. Thomas Aquinas SHS and Accra Wesley Girls SHS.
International Literacy Day, celebrated annually on 8th September, is an opportunity for Governments, civil society and stakeholders to highlight improvements in world literacy rates, and reflect on the world's remaining literacy challenges. The issue of literacy is a key component of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
This year's, International Literacy Day is focused on ‘Literacy and Multilingualism. Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist and distributed unevenly across countries and populations. Embracing linguistic diversity in education and literacy development is central to addressing these literacy challenges.
It is therefore against this background that Vivo Energy Ghana in partnership with ABCDE held this event to sensitize and mentor students from the Senior High Schools.
