President Akufo-Addo has revealed that the first batch of 48 ambulances, out of the 275 procured in fulfillment of the 1-Constituency-1-Ambulance pledge, has arrived in the country.

According to him, the second batch due in Ghana by the first week of October.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inducted 378 newly qualified medical doctors and dentists into the country’s healthcare delivery system at Accra International Conference Centre.

In May 2019, Madam Tina Mensah the Deputy Minister for Health gave the hint in Accra  at the closing session of a two-week training workshop for staff of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) that constituencies will take delivery of 275 new Mercedes Benz Ambulances to enable personnel in the sector to deliver on its mandate of saving lives timely.

Despite failing to meet the deadline for the delivery in August 2019, Ghanaians are still looking forward for the government to fulfill the promise.

Meanwhile, a two-week training workshop for staff of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) for the use of the  275 new Mercedes Benz Ambulances.

Participants who were advanced emergency medical technicians and staff from NAS Headquarters were taken through the use of light and siren, Emergency Medical Technician Engagement and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Research. Other courses treated were EMS Education Theory, Advance Medical Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support and Ambulance Operation.

Currently, Ghana has less than 60 ambulances serving an estimated 30 million Ghanaians.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, recently said: “these are being funded from the $1 million per constituency the President pledged in his campaign in the run-up to the 2016 general election.”

He added that a team of experts had already assessed the quality of the ambulances and certified them as being consistent with required specifications.

According to Dr Nsiah-Asare, the decision to purchase the Specialised vehicles by the government formed part of a grand effort to transform the health sector to facilitate effective delivery of health care in the country.
