The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been given three days to appease the for comments deemed derogatory against the paramount chief by the party’s Ashanti Region Secretary.

“If they fail to heed, the National Democratic Congress, its Ward Executives, Branch, Constituency, Regional and National Executives will be banned from all official functions organized under the auspices of the Ofori Panin Stool and shall be declared persona non grata in all palaces of the over 940 towns, villages and settlements in Akyem Abuakwah."

That within three days, the Council demands the following:

1. A direct, clear and unambiguous public apology be rendered by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to His Royal Majesty the Okyenhene and Okyeman.

2. A ritual pacification be performed to appease His Majesty the Okyenhene.

3. An apology rendered personally by Mr Kwame Zu to the Okyenhene and a public recantation of the offensive words and specific conduct complained off.

4. Invocation of appropriate disciplinary sanctions of the party against the conduct of Kwame Zu.

What Kwame Zu said recently:

The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, was stopped from drinking water with animals through the hard work of former President John Dramani Mahama, an executive of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims.

Kwame Zu, who is the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, revealed that the respected chief competed with animals for water in various unsafe sources until the former President provided water for residents of Kyebi which is the hometown of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Addressing participants of a demonstration by the Coalition for National Sovereignty bemoaning the what he described as increasing hardship and refusal by the government to complete projects at various stages and questioning the commitment of the President in that respect when he has also refused to commission the ultra-modern Kejetia market.

“If this Kejetia edifice had been in Kyebi won’t Akufo-Addo open it for his people to use? What development has he brought to Asanteman…even his own hometown his people were competing for drinking water with animals, John Mahama had to provide potable water for his kinsmen. Until John Mahama provided water for him, Okyehene was drinking with animals.

Later, Kwame Zu rendered an unqualified apology to the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin over his recent comments.

In a statement issued on Saturday September 21, 2019, the NDC executive also apologized to the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council saying “After deeply reflecting over the said statement and the interpretation given it by a section of the public, which interpretation is plausible, I wholeheartedly regret for making that statement. I hereby wish to unreservedly render an unqualified apology to the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council and indeed all Ghanaians for the said statement”
