52 People Gets Government Scholarship In Upper West Akyem District

Decentralization of the National Scholarship Scheme for University hopefuls has paved way for 52 people in the Upper West Akyem District to enter University for Graduate and Post-Graduate course.

The beneficiaries are expected to receive GH¢70,000 as tuition fee but no beneficiary will receive full payment of fees for now and be renewed annually.

Handing over the Scholarship certificate to beneficiaries during maiden Meet the Press series in Adeiso, Chief executive for the District, Honourable Eugene Sackey said over 90 people applied for the government scholarship but after conducting interviews for potential applicants, 52 people qualified and one other is on standby.

He charged the beneficiaries to study hard and become future leaders and workers of the county.

Mr. Sackey said the District Assembly has also supported brilliant but needy students, Persons with Disabilities seeking for educational scholarship.


On the Nations Builders Corps program to curb Graduate Unemployment in the Country, the DCE said 74 people were recruited last year and some have quite after they were successfully engaged by the government into permanent jobs.

Speaking on another flagship program, Planting for Food and Job program, Mr. Sackey said as, in June 2019, a total of 3,334 Farmers were engaged by the government in his District.

He said out of the number, 2,802 are males and 453 are females and they were supported in maize, Rice, Tomatoes, cabbage, and cucumber production.
