The Ministry of Trade and Industry has approved the proposal for the establishment of Cassava Processing Plant under the one District one Factory(1D1F) project for Upper West Akyem District in the Eastern Region.
According to District Chief executive for the District, Honourable Eugene Sackey, they are yet to receive proposals from Private companies to partner government for the establishment of the factory.
Speaking at the maiden Meet the Press series for District Assemblies in Adeiso, the DCE said stakeholders meeting was held in 2018 and the stakeholders, which included chiefs, Assembly members, Member of Parliament for the Area and others who participated in the forum proposed the cassava Processing plant base on the number of farmers who produce the plant in the area.
Honourable Sackey announced to collaborate with all stakeholders in the District to seek partners to support the establishment to aid cassava farmers to increase production to create jobs.
Under the planting for food and job program introduced by the government in 2017, the DCE commended the Ministry for Food and Agriculture for supporting 3,334 farmers in his District to cultivate Maize, Rice, Tomatoes, cabbage and cucumber.
Honourable Sackey said the Planting for Export and Rural Development is also ongoing and in July 2019,10,000 coconut and 15,000 cocoa were distributed for about 80 farmers for free and called on all Ghanaians to support the government to implement more social intervention and flagship programs to create jobs and boost the Economy.
