National Scholarship Secretariat through its decentralization of the
Scholarship scheme has released Gh¢116,408.90 to sponsor 49 Tertiary students
in West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The students are pursuing various programmes at the Universities, Polytechnics, Nursing Training, and Colleges of Education.
This was announced by the Municipal Chief executive for West Akyem, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu at Meet the Press series in Asamankese.
He said the Assembly is working tirelessly to improve the performance of pupils in the B.E.C.E. to enable them access the Free Senior High Education policy of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, My President, adding, he has revived the Municipal Education Oversight Committee and together with their support have engaged with all Circuit Supervisors, Head Teachers, and Teachers as well as staff of the Education Directorate in the Municipality to brainstorm and strategize in order to address the poor trend of B.E.C.E performance.
The MCE said the Assembly have executed several infrastructural projects to improve teaching and learning and Notable among them include the following Completion of 3-unit classroom block at Anglican JHS,
Completion of 6-unit classroom block at Islamic primary school,
Completion of 2-Unit KG Block with Office, Store, 4-Seater KVIP Toilet, Urinal, 50 Kids Tables and 300 Chairs at Ekoso
Completion of 2-Unit KG Block, 50 Kids Tables and 300 Chairs at Topease.
Other projects are Re-roofing of Osenase L/A Presby, R/C Primary & J.H.S School and Akanteng Presby KG School,
Construction of Fence wall at WAMA K.G School,
Completion of 6-Units Classroom Block with ancillary facilities at Asamankese R/C,
Roofing of Municipal Education Directorate
Construction of1-Storey Dormitory Block with Ironing Bay, Toilet facilities for St. Thomas Senior Technical High and Asamankese Senior High Schools
